Title: What do we prefer? From philosophical stimulus to Artificial Intelligence solutions

Abstract: Preferences are the backbone of various fields as they naturally arise and play an important role in many real-life decisions. Preferences are a core and hot topic in AI for which we are witnessing plenty of work covering modeling, representing and reasoning with preferences. In this talk I will give an overview of some preference representation languages with a particular emphasis on conditional logics. I will also highlight the benefits of using these logics in preference-based database queries. Time permitting, I will present an empirical analysis of conditional logics in cognitive psychology.
